A recent Casper high school graduate and Boys & Girls Club member will head to college this fall with scholarships totaling more than $100,000.00. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America announced that Sierra White will receive $50,000.00 in scholarship money through the BGCA Southwest Region Youth of the Year program. She had already earned a full ride scholarship to the University of Wyoming and $10,000.00 after being named Wyoming’s Youth of the Year and Central Wyoming’s Youth of the Year. Sierra plans to begin her college studies this fall at the University of Wyoming. Her goal is to get a nursing degree.
Two other 2017 Casper high school graduates will also take advantage of scholarships they won through the Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of the Year Program.
Amber Bennett was Central Wyoming and Wyoming’s Youth of the Year in 2016. She will begin her studies at Casper College and hopes to become a Park Ranger.
The University of Wyoming is the first university in the nation to award full tuition and fees (supplement to Hathaway) to State Youth of the Year winners. On the local level, the Central Wyoming winner receives a $5,000.00 scholarship and the finalists each receive $250.00 through the Ruth R. Ellbogen Education Award.
