“Sherman has shown outstanding commitment to the Boys & Girls Club. He has proven to be a role model to the kids in a variety of ways. He always has a good attitude and willing to fit in to each and every Club site as needed.”
Q. What is your history with the Club? How long have you worked here?
I have worked at the Club for just under two years. My only history with the Club was my older brother, Kalen, used to work here at the Club when the K Street site first opened.
Q. What made you want to work at the Club?
While going to UW at Casper, I wanted to gain more experience for my elementary education, and I knew that the Club would be a great chance for me to build relationships with the youth in my community. Working at the Club will help me get the experience I will need to manage my own classroom in the future. Q. What one lesson have you learned being immersed in the Club?
One lesson I have learned at the Club is that the youth in Casper are in need of great role models and the Club gives them a great opportunity to have mentors that will inspire them. Q. What do you hope you leave with the kids?
I want kids to have a love for sports and physical education, have them spend a little more time away from the tv and computers, and to get more active with various activities.
Q. What is your favorite part of the day?
Best part of the day is when the youth are so excited about a new game in gym, and getting a group together to try something new.
Q. If you had to explain to someone who may not be familiar with what happens at the Club, how would you explain it?
The Club is a place where the youth in the community can come together with a great staff to develop into great people. With a great before school club at Mills Elementary and after school program at all the sites kids can have a safe place to discover new interests and find friendships to last a lifetime. Also the Club provides a great athletic program to teach kids about the fundamentals of the sports offered.
Q. Tell us more about you. Career aspirations? Hobbies? Interests?
I am from Casper born and raised. I am currently a student at UW at Casper, finishing out my Elementary Education degree and will get my Masters in special education further down the line. Some of my hobbies are coaching for the Casper Crush Baseball Academy, video editing, improving my skills and an illustrator. I have been on a quest to draw/sketch at least once a day for a year. Hopefully one day become an illustrator like Zachary Pullen or Skottie Young.
Sherman is a youth development professional who works at the Mills Club for before-school programming, in the athletic department helping to officiate and coordinate sports, and fills in at various Clubs when needed.
