It was a fun, but messy last day for the Mills Club as staff took a pie in the face from Club kids. For the 5th graders, it was their final time attending after school programming before joining the Teen Center. For the other Club members, it was their final time in a place that has been part of their daily routine. With the closing of Mills Elementary School, the Mills Club site will transition programming to a new school in the fall.

After serving the Mills community since 2008, the Boys & Girls Club will begin after school programming at the new Journey Elementary School located at the site of the old CY Junior High in Casper. The Journey Boys & Girls Club will be housed in the old, but newly renovated CY Junior High gym, providing access to classrooms, gym space, and an expansive outdoor area. It will allow the Club to expand the Junior Master Gardener program in collaboration with Journey’s greenhouse, more athletic activities with the use of the large outdoor fields and additional youth leadership opportunities.
“Though many things will be changing with this transition, one thing that families can expect to remain consistent are the staff’s dedication to reaching every member and family through individual relationships,” said Amanda Montes, Journey branch director.
The hours will remain the same with before school programming available from 7 – 8:30 every morning and 3:30 – 6 every afternoon.
Ms. Amanda says they are looking forward to having a Club site at Journey Elementary because it provides an opportunity to reach even more kids.
“Enrollment at Journey is already higher than that of Mills Elementary and, because of our central location off of CY Avenue, students from surrounding neighborhoods will have easier access to the Club. We are looking into several direct bus opportunities to transport members to and from the many elementary schools in the area.”
The Mills Club site closed on May 26. The new site at Journey Elementary will open at the start of the new school year.
