She walks with purpose and with a bit of a bounce in her step. It’s as if each time she sets out somewhere, she is on a mission of sorts. As a sophomore at Kelly Walsh High School, Catherine, or Cat, as she is called by those who know her, spends her after school hours at her job. She works as the “stuff” organizer in the Boys & Girls Club’s Coat Check. It’s where Club members keep their coats and backpacks and other possessions while they are taking part in activities at the Club. Cat’s job is to keep the items orderly in assigned cubbies and make sure they are reunited with their rightful owners at the end of the evening.
It can get a little hectic, but Cat takes it all in stride and often does it with a smile on her face. That smile looks a little different these days. And will eventually look a whole lot different. Earlier this year, the 16 year old learned that she will be getting braces thanks to a Boys & Girls Club donor and 307 Orthodontics.
Joe Scott is a longtime supporter of the Club and other youth serving organizations. Last spring, he purchased a full set of braces at another local fundraiser. Upon hearing he was the top bidder, Mr. Scott announced that he would like to donate it to a Club kid who needed it. Cat was nominated to receive the gift and is now a couple of months into the treatment with Dr. Kolton Erickson at 307 Orthodontics.

“It means a lot to me. I’ve always been self-conscious about my smile and with Mr. Scott’s gift, I will soon be able to show it off without even thinking twice,” said Cat. “This is certainly something my family would never had been able to provide for me.”
