Artist Encourages Community to Dream Big

How you see yourself can determine your personal success. Famed Casper artist Chris Navarro has captured that idea in his latest sculpture titled “Dare to Dream BIG.” This 1,100 lb bronze monument will be on display at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming from June 27 – August 28. A special unveiling with Navarro was held on Friday, June 29 at 10 a.m. in front of the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center at 1701 East K Street in Casper.

The sculpture depicts a cat sitting on a pile of books with the titles THE POWER OF BELIEF. The cat is looking into a mirror and sees his reflection as a lion.

“It is about imagination, the power of belief and thinking big. The way to become a lion is to think and believe you are a lion,” said Navarro.

The monument also has an interactive element with a large double-sided outdoor chalkboard in which the community will be invited to express personal dreams by writing on the board finishing the sentence “I dare to dream big and I will…..” The community can follow along with the dreams written on the board and express their own dreams on social media using the hashtag #BeALionCasper.

“This monument ties so closely to what we hope to instill in each of the kids that are impacted by the Club whether it be through our daily programming, our outreach programs through Cowboy Ethics and Financial Literacy, or our sports leagues,” said Ashley Bright, CEO, BGCCW. “We believe every child deserves a future filled with hope and success. What better way to inspire them to dream big than with this beautiful art piece from Chris.”

The display of the monument at the Boys & Girls Club is part of a statewide tour. It was featured in Cody previous to this stop in Casper and will have its final stop in Cheyenne before heading to Grand Rapids, MI where it will be featured at the Gerald Ford Presidential Library in the world’s largest art competition, ArtPrize.
