“They say ‘If you do something you love, you will never work a day in your life!’ That is truly how my nineteen year experience has been working for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming!” – Brian McCarthy, Greater Casper Branch Director.

Brian McCarthy of BGCCW has been announced as the winner of the 2nd Annual Wyoming Afterschool Professional Awards: Director of the Year, by the Wyoming Afterschool Alliance. The organization recognizes that the Boys & Girls Clubs programs are integral to child learning and development; including keeping Club members safe while providing crucial support needed to produce responsible, productive, citizens. All of which is only possible because of BGCCW after school professionals, like Branch Director Brian McCarthy. This award is for a director or coordinator who is building a legacy in their community. 

One nomination noted, “In the world of working with youth, we all know how cumbersome it can be, how frustrating it is to coach them, mentor them, guide them. Brian embraces the challenge, each and every day, with his members and his staff.  He is a master at growing people—helping them to find their inner strength and reach their complete potential.” – Wyoming After school Alliance.

Brian recounted his beginnings at the Club. “I started as a summer program staff when i was a nineteen year old kid. Barely out of high school I didn’t know where my path would take me; until I realized I was passionate about impacting the lives of youth.” 

Over the years Brian has served in various Club roles. From gym program leader, Athletic Assistant, Athletic Coordinator, and Teen Director. All of these roles helped in his development and prepared him for his current role as Main Branch Director. Brian stated that his experience at the Boys & Girls Club combined with the amazing leadership of the organization has made him the person he is today. 

“My current passion is developing the highest quality program leaders in the world; my team embraces this concept everyday!  They are truly professionals and work very hard daily at their craft. Our success as a club is a reflection upon the amazing staff and their willingness to put in the work to be the best in the business!”

While the Award is truly honoring, Brian states it’s not about self-recognition. “It’s truly more of a reflection upon the great work my team does every day and the amazing work of the whole organization! While I am proud to be recognized in this way, I am even more proud of the amazing work of the professionals I supervise and the organization as a whole does!”

Youth Development Professionals like Brian are unbelievable in the impact they have on the youth they serve!
