After 12 weeks of being closed for the safety of members and their families, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming (BGCCW) is re-opening just in time for summer camp! Casper Mayor Steve Freel has declared Monday, June 8, 2020 as Boys & Girls Clubs Day to mark the re-opening.
The COVID-19 global pandemic forced the closure of many businesses including all Club sites operated by BGCCW. As statewide restrictions began to be eased in phases, BGCCW worked diligently to develop a re-open plan that would allow the organization to serve youth once again in a safe manner.
A task force of Club executive leadership, board members, and youth development professionals met for hours, researching options and sharing ideas to generate a well-thought-out plan. Once complete, it was submitted for review and approved by county health officials.
With the green-light to move forward, summer camp will be held with limited capacity at two sites in Casper. All children who attend camp will be required to have their temperatures taken upon arrival and again mid-day to closely monitor for fevers. Hand sanitizer is available in all groups and will be used frequently. Staff will use personal protective equipment (PPE) when serving food. Masks will not be required but parents can choose to send one with their children. A cleaning and disinfecting protocol using CDC approved cleaners will be followed including, but not limited to, when a group changes rooms, after meals, and at the end of day.
Over the past 84 days, walls, floors, tables, chairs – every surface in the Club has been cleaned, disinfected, and refreshed. Staff has purged broken-down and old items, fixing what can be fixed, and painting walls. In addition, they’ve used this time for professional development and training opportunities.
Summer Camp in Casper will run through August 26, 2020.
