The east lawn of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming will be transformed into a gardener’s paradise. With the help of Harvest to Table Wyoming and the community, eight raised beds will be installed on Saturday, May 20 from 11 am – 5 pm. Club parents, supporters and community members are invited to dig in and help build these 6’ x 16’ beds. The gardens will be at the Main Club located at 1701 East K Street in Casper.
Throughout the summer, Club members will be working in the gardens, learning about horticulture, sustainable foods, and nutrition. Studies show that children who take part in growing their own food are more interested in choosing fresh produce to eat. In addition, getting kids in the garden introduces and reinforces math and science concepts through the growing process. Reading can be incorporated as children’s interest in fresh foods expands and they seek to learn more through books. Gardening is just one of the many educational, hands-on programs available during Summer Camp at the Club.
