Learning Skills and Having Fun while Playing Soccer!
Having Fun Playing in an All-Star Soccer Game
We had a great time playing soccer this fall at the Club! Based on teamwork, effort, attitude, and sportsmanship, some of the players from the 4th and 5th youth soccer division were given the chance to play in an All-Star Game. Two or three representatives were selected from each of the six soccer teams to participate in the All-Star game. Playing in this game was a surprise to the athletes.
On Saturday morning, December 18, the athletes showed up and were given a player bag, along with their new All-Star jerseys with their names and numbers on them. The Eastern and Western All-Stars practiced with their new teammates and prepared for the game later that evening.
At 4pm, as everyone waited for the 2nd Annual Indoor Soccer All-Star Game to start, the Eastern and Western All-Stars and their coaches were introduced individually as they ran out of the tunnel to loud music, a light show, and smoke rolling on the floor. The game started and was a close match to end the first period. The athletes were then divided into smaller teams of four and competed in a skills competition that included dribbling, passing, and shooting. The Western All-Stars came away with the Skills Competition bragging rights. While the next two periods of the game were close, it was the Eastern All-Stars that came away with the 7-5 win to seal the evening.
Each All-Star athlete was given a medal and an award for being selected to the game.
“Soccer is a fun, enjoyable sport that helps kids get in shape and make new friends,” said Jake Wilson, Athletic Director at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming. “We believe that our sports programs give kids a fun and solid sports foundation and get them involved in being part of a team,” added Wilson.
