The Club opened on the first day of school, welcoming 35 members that first day, and 43 on day two! Since that time, attendance has been consistently around 40, with 93 members signed up and more than 75 youth attending Club so far!
Each day is packed with well-planned activities and programming. The day begins with some outdoor activities and then a healthy snack provided by the school district. After that, members come together for a Club meeting, reciting the Club motto and reviewing the day’s options. Here’s what you will hear them chanting at about 3:45 each day:
“I am a Boys & Girls Club member.
I am honest
I am respectful
I will help others
Because…
I am a Boys & Girls Club member.”
From there, members participate in Power Hour and academic extension activities; everything from a partner shape hunt to card games that reinforce math skills. Members soon have their choice of two different “clubs” each day. In Lego Club, they’ll test their creativity in meeting building challenges, while Builders Club allows members to design and create as young engineers and architects. Music and Drama Clubs teach creativity and self-confidence through games and music, and Geography Club has led us to India, Haiti, Costa Rica, and Texas.
After club time, it’s all about enrichment: Arts, crafts, gym games, and team-building activities. This time is focused primarily on strengthening social skills, burning off energy, and building relationships. Throughout every moment of every Club day, the goal is to engage young people in quality programs and fun activities while building a variety of skills and interpersonal interactions.
All of this has been possible, thanks to the generosity of the community and YOUR support. We wouldn’t be here without you!
