The Casper Mountain Biathlon Club recently introduced this winter sport to youngsters at the Boys & Girls Club in Casper. Rob Rosser, a Paralympic Nordic and Biathlon coach, Olympian, and three time North American Biathlon Champion; along with Nordic coach Victor Feofilaktov brought their expertise and passion to the Main Club.
They explained how the sport works and even brought some laser guns for the kids to test their own shooting skills. Biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross country skiing and rifle shooting. Coach Rosser explained that it’s truly a physical (skiing) and mental (shooting) sport.
The Biathlon Venue sits adjacent to the Nordic Ski Trails and offers 50 meter shooting lanes for the sport and 10 meter lanes for “Paralympic” training. According to the Casper Mountain Biathlon Club’s website, this venue serves as a competition and training site for biathlon, adaptive recreation programs, cross country skiing, running and mountain biking events.
