“Jake has done an outstanding job organizing the sports leagues. This fall, the Club took full ownership of youth flag football. With over 400 kids participating, Jake broke them into teams, scheduled each division for games and practices, find and train coaches and officials, and manage jerseys.” – Derek DeBoer, Vice President of Operations
Q. What is your history with the Club? How long have you worked here?
I have been with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming for a little over 2 years.
Q. What made you want to work at the Club? Â
After college, I was searching for a job being a PE Teacher but there weren’t many spots available. I came across this job and thought it would be a great opportunity to get my foot in the door and it sounded like a really fun place to be. I have always liked hanging out with kids and so it was a perfect fit.
Q. What one lesson have you learned being immersed in the Club?
The lesson that I learned is that there will never be a dull moment here at the Club. There is always something to smile and laugh at. Everyday there is some Club member that will make you laugh. Makes for a fun day . . .everyday.
Q. What do you hope you leave with the kids?
I hope that kids leave the Club and think about how much fun that they have had during their time here. I hope that when they leave they want to come back because the staff are fun and the time here was a blast.
Q. What is your favorite part of the day?
My favorite part of the day is when the kids start to show up. There is always that one kid that wants to tell you his story. The stories that I’ve heard really make being at the Club a great time.
Q. If you had to explain to someone who may not be familiar with what happens at the Club, how would you explain it?
I would tell them that it’s the place to be in Casper, Wyoming. Here at the Club we do nothing dull and we always have something out-of-the-box going on. Kids leave here wanting to stay for more fun!
Q. Tell us more about you. Family? Hobbies? Interests?
I grew up in the panhandle of Nebraska; the oldest of three boys. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Black Hills State University, where I also ran track for four years. I enjoy working out, fly fishing, outside activities, and participating in any sport that is going on around town. I really just enjoy being around friends and having a good time.
