“It is his dedication, hard work, and willingness to do anything to support our mission that makes Pedro truly great at what he does. He puts in constant effort every day to make the Club and the organization as a whole great!”
-Brian McCarthy, Main Club Director
Q. What is your history with the Club? How long have you worked here?
I have been a Club kid since I was 5 years old. As a Club kid I started volunteering at the age of 11 in the Tech Lab and began leading the Newsletter that I run today with my Torch Club kids. I have seen a lot of staff throughout the years. Now that I work at the Club I use some of the tools and experiences as I learned as a child. I have worked in Coat Check, Kids Cafe, Kitchen, Tech Center and now I run the Tech Center and am the Assistant Director of the Greater Casper Branch.
Q. What made you want to work at the Club?
I always wanted to work for the Club as a child and I always told people that. When Ashley stepped through the doors, I didn’t just want to work at the Club I wanted to be the next Ashley Bright as the CEO of the organization and I still haven’t changed my mind.
Q. What one lesson have you learned being immersed in the Club?
Every day may be a challenge, but challenges are what makes us, us.
Q. What do you hope you leave with the kids?
I hope to leave the kids Hope, Giving, and Faith, because these kids do need those when they leave our doors.
Q. What is your favorite part of the day?
Seeing kids leave for the day with smiles on their faces knowing that I made a difference in their lives. Every child needs that kind of mentor.
Q. If you had to explain to someone who may not be familiar with what happens at the Club, how would you explain it?
I get asked this question a lot. I usually tell them what the Club means to me. I always start by saying I’ve been at the Club since I was 5 years old and still there because kids are my passion. When you see kids come through the Club doors with smiles on their faces, we are doing something right. We have education programs or activities that our team makes fun. We teach kids the value of life because not all members have that in their homes. Kids that have grown up in the Club have told me that learned a lot from the Club, but we, as staff, also learn a lot from them.
Q. Tell us more about you. Hobbies? Interests?
I love Soccer…Chivas all the way (sorry mom). I can honestly say my passion for photography was built at the Club. I always took pictures of all the fun activities and events so I started taking pics of nature and that lead to Mendez Photography, a side business that I love to do in my spare time. I do credit the Club for leading me to a passion behind the lens.
