Move from the bleachers to the sidelines by becoming a coach for youth basketball. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming offers basketball leagues for kids in grades Kindergarten through 6th beginning in January. With more than 250 kids expected to register, volunteer coaches are needed to make the season a success.

Experience is not required, but a general knowledge of the sport is helpful. A new coach orientation will be held on Jan. 15 to provide an overview of expectations and some useful tips on being a coach. Coaching is more than teaching a sport. It’s being a trusted mentor for youth and being able to instill a sense of good sportsmanship in the players.

Games and practices are approximately an hour a week, Monday through Friday evenings with start times of 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 p.m. The season begins Monday, Jan. 19, 2015 and ends with March Madness games on Saturday, March 7,, 2015. All games and practices will take place at the Boys & Girls Club gymnasiums located at 1701 East K Street.

For parents who commit to coaching their child’s team, their child’s $25 registration fee may be waived. Registration deadline is Jan. 5, 2015. Background checks are completed for all volunteers with the Boys & Girls Clubs.
